I came accross this site called HomerFind.com.  It is basically a Google search screen but its background is all black.  It references a blog a couple years ago about how Google would save the Earth millions of watts of energy if it only turned its screen black as well.  This is due to the enormous popularity of Google. 

Now this may or may not save any energy, but I like the general awareness
that it creates in the world of ecology.  There are really nice pictures of nature and animals on there as well that scroll through like a slide show.  Possibly a good screen saver as well.  You can set it as your home page and if you happen to be a big Googler, then you're all set.
